Kindle Fire Overview
Can Amazons New Tablet E-Reader Put Apple In its Place?
So the word is finally out on what the retail giant Amazon has been planning for their new ereader series. On September 28th the world was introduced to the new Kindle Fire tablet. The strategic launch of the new line of e-readers allows the company to take advantage of two significant buying cycles, first you have the pre-order craze, and everyone’s rush to be the first one to get the new toy! Then once that cycle has completed your rolling right into the holiday season where the new Kindle line-up is sure to be a hot seller for generous Christmas gift givers.
The Kindle Fire really brings that next level of design elements amazon needed to compete with the power house ipad in the market place. As the Kindle 3g has been popular with book lovers, it really only served a certain niche. Now with the computing power, color LCD screen and the new Amazon Silk browser capabilities the Fire can broaden Kindles appeal to the wider tech audience.
Amazon Kindle Fire Key Features:
- Stunning Color Touchscreen
Movies, magazines and children’s books come alive on a 7″ vibrant color touchscreen that delivers 16 million colors in high resolution. Kindle Fire uses IPS (in-plane switching) technology – similar technology to that used on the iPad – for an extra-wide viewing angle, perfect for sharing your screen with others.
- Fast, Dual-Core Processor
Kindle Fire features a state-of-the-art dual-core processor for fast, powerful performance. Stream music while browsing the web or read books while downloading videos.
- Free Cloud Storage
Forget about memory – Kindle Fire gives you free storage for all your Amazon digital content in the Amazon Cloud. Your books, movies, music and apps are available instantly to stream or download for free, at a touch of your finger.
- Amazon Whispersync
Like Kindle e-readers, Kindle Fire uses Amazon’s Whispersync technology to automatically sync your library, last page read, bookmarks, notes, and highlights across your devices. On Kindle Fire, Whispersync extends to video. Start streaming a movie on Kindle Fire, then pick up right where you left off on your TV – avoid the frustration of having to find your spot.
As you can see from Amazon’s own description of the tablet it seems the new kindle fire brings a lot to the table to help it compete in the competitive tablet marketplace. These features combined with Amazons new Amazon Prime program and access to thousands of different online media instantly, really adds to its appeal.
Also kindle can now get into the ever evolving and increasingly popular app business with a tablet PC, as the Kindle Fire allows you to download thousands of popular apps and games, like of course Angry Birds and experience them in the vivid LCD color of its 7″ display. This is the method that Amazon is really using when trying to compete with the Ipad. When you combine the Amazon Prime service, Kindle ebook Store, and the Android App Marketplace with a powerful $200 tablet you have Apple’s first real competition.
What you have to understand is that on a hardware level, The Kindle Fire does not directly compare to the ipad2 at this time. At a $200 price point, it is not meant to either, Amazon’s tablet is only a means o access to its broader mobile media properties.

The absence of 3g is kind of a downer but the Amazon silk browser seems like it will be pretty awesome when you are on a good wifi hot spot.
Haven’t decided if i’m going to pre-order or not.
